After visiting her doctor because of a persistent cough and itchiness, Sierra underwent tests for asthma which revealed something restricting her breathing. No one imagined the severity of the issue until she went in for an x-ray, which showed a huge mass on her chest. Her diagnosis was Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Nausea and sickness took their toll during her multiple medical stays and treatment protocol, but this active 18-year-old continued with classes and learned a lot about “adulting” by signing many of her own hospital forms and learning about her healthcare costs right alongside her loving parents. During her wish interview, Sierra enthusiastically shared with us that she really wanted to have a wish that would allow her to spend carefree time with her parents. She recognized how much trauma they went through with her diagnosis and she appreciated, beyond words, how they stood by her side throughout her journey. Her dad is a truck driver and her mom is afraid of flying, so she thoughtfully shared her #1 wish for an All-American Road Trip to California and back! The route she chose included visits to Redwood National Forest which she described as “gorgeous,” Yosemite National Park where “every view was breathtaking,” Yellowstone National Park, and a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge. The family of three had a fantastic trip and thanks to dad’s driving skills, they enjoyed every minute of the 72+ hour car ride! We are honored to have played a role in Sierra’s life during this difficult and windy path. We know that this young lady will do great things and look forward to keeping in touch and helping with her Scholarship of Hope® funding as she works towards dental hygiene school very soon! Special thanks to C’mon Inn Bozeman, Sentinel Hotel, North Cliff Hotel, Rush Creek Lodge, Hampton Inn by Burley, Grizzly Lodge, and Astoria Hotel & Suites for providing hotel stays and being wish contributors to help us grant Sierra’s Road Trip Wish!
