Out of nowhere, after living an active and healthy life, 13 year old Jade suffered a traumatic seizure. After this crippling event, she was diagnosed with severe intractable epilepsy and she was placed in a medically induced coma so her medical team could run tests and locate the source of the problem. They woke her after an unsuccessful SIX WEEKS of testing with the devastating realization that Jade needed to re-learn many of her basic skills, including how to write and talk, all while continuing to have multiple seizures daily. This remarkable teen has weathered a five-year storm of brain surgeries, medical ports, medications, broken ribs, and staples like a champion. She is now eighteen and has regained all functions while still having weekly seizures, migraines, and some disorientation. In January, Wishes & More booked Jade’s wish request to attend the Tortuga music festival that was scheduled for April in Florida. The Lieberman’s, of Florida, graciously offered the use of their condo on the beach and all of the tickets and plans were in place when Covid-19 hit and the festival was moved to September. Jade kept dreaming as we rebooked her Florida vacation. As the months progressed, we learned that the festival was once again postponed until Fall 2021 and Jade decided to switch her wish to something she could experience now – a Shopping Spree at the MOA! This past week, Jade traveled to the Twin Cities to experience her wish of some well-deserved “me time” during a 3-day shopping spree at the Mall of America! The stores & restaurants that welcomed this young lady and supported her wish with donations and special treatment were Applebee’s in Bloomington, Buckle, American Eagle, Noodles & Company, Boot Barn, Nike, Columbia Sportswear, CRAVE and Baking Betty’s. Special thanks to the Radisson Blu Mall of America for welcoming Jade with a complimentary 2-night stay and to the Lieberman’s for generously offering the use of their Florida condo. Once again, Wishes & More wouldn’t let the coronavirus stop our ability to make dreams-come-true. We know this getaway helped refresh Jade in her resolve to overcome this serious condition and anything else that comes her way!
