A few days after Dahlia was born, her adoring parents learned that she had signs and symptoms consistent with a rare genetic condition called Walker Warburg Syndrome – a congenital muscular dystrophy and muscle eye brain disease. Surgeries, breathing tubes, numerous tests & pokes, therapies and countless meetings with doctors, nurses and specialists all became part of this family’s normal routine. One month after her 6th birthday, Dahlia’s parents learned about Wishes & More and they quickly completed a wish application. They shared that her condition was worsening rapidly and noted that it was a rush situation. We got on it immediately, and the same day that we received the application we connected with two of our volunteer Wish Wizards and they scheduled an interview with the family for that evening. The volunteers learned that she loved to swing and have the sun and a breeze on her face and recommended that we provide a backyard playset. Our team got to work on ordering the playset the next day (Thursday) and found every company backed up for weeks. However, our friends at Crown of Minnesota heard the story and brought in an extra team to make it happen the upcoming Tuesday. Sadly, Dahlia passed away early on Monday and we had to cancel the installation. However, the family shifted into our memorial program and became recipients of our $1,000 gift for the family to use at their discretion. Our hope is that we are able to fulfill a wish for every child who comes to us for support, but sometimes our best efforts are not successful. We are thankful that in devastating situations such as this, we are still able to support the family with our Memorial Program. Dahlia will forever be in our hearts.
