Just short of his first birthday, this adorable little boy was diagnosed with a Wilms Tumor – resulting in large growths on each of his kidneys. Asher immediately got started on a chemo protocol and his tumors responded well; however, he then developed Nephrotic syndrome. This condition damaged his kidneys to the extent that both had to be removed. In February he came home and since then, his parents administer a 12 hour dialysis regimen every night and this will continue until he is able to have a kidney transplant. The good news is that last month, one year after his initial diagnosis, this little fighter’s oncology scans showed that he is now cancer-free and the family hopes to be placed on the transplant list once he has been in remission for 2 years.
Mom describes her precious son as “kind-hearted, silly and a joy to be around. He loves playing with toys and being outside. He is an observer and loves to figure things out with his toys.” Mom & Dad felt that a playground would be a perfect wish for Asher – one that would accommodate him now as a toddler and as he grows and continues to enjoy more and more time outdoors. Asher’s Playground was completed in early September and you can see from the photos that it will get lots of use with giggles galore from this playful toddler!
