Zariah is a delicate and resilient nonverbal two-year-old with complex medical needs that require constant, around-the-clock care. Her loving mother, who is her full-time caregiver, shared that doctors didn’t expect Zariah to live as long as she has, but this strong little girl keeps fighting. Because of her fragile condition, leaving home is extremely challenging and usually only happens for doctor or hospital visits, in which they rely on ambulance transport. When discussing options for a wish, Mom talked about an opportunity that would include independently being in warm water and having a fun, safe outing outside of the hospital. Zariah’s Staycation wish was created, and to ensure that she could experience everything we had scheduled, we split up the events into two days with lots of rest in between. First was a magical day at the Mall of America, which included a visit to SeaLife thanks to Merlin’s Magic Wand, where she was very peaceful and content, taking in the incredible sights. Build-A-Bear was next, where the team generously donated stuffed animals, outfits, shoes, and a drawstring bag. The generous group at Twin City Grill also provided special treatment with a private space to dine and a comped meal. Mom shared, “I never dreamed I’d be able to take Zariah to the mall, go shopping, and go out to eat!” One month later, Zariah enjoyed her second day of fun at the Water Street Inn. They were given access to a suite for the afternoon with a whirlpool tub where they enjoyed a delicious lunch before Zariah indulged in an in-suite mani/pedi, a massage, and a warm soak in her private hot tub. We’re overjoyed that Zariah was able to experience such a wonderful and impactful wish. Wishing this sweet family many more joyful moments outside of the hospital walls!
