Samy

Samy is incredibly strong, but it isn’t the kind of strength that comes from the gym. It’s a strength from within. He also has an abundance of grit and resilience from a battlefield that was a result of remarkably serious birth defects. This 19-year-old has endured more than we can imagine as a result of recovering from 25 major surgeries to separate organs, pin them in place, straighten his spine, and more. But none of these trials have kept him down. He has found joy in sports, swimming, tacos (not cake!), potato chips, and most of all – music! He truly enjoys playing in the band at his church and has made many good friends and incredible memories playing at worship services. This talented, self-taught drummer told our wish team about his dream of owning his own drum set and someday taking formal drum lessons.

The Wishes & More team got to work and contacted Sweetwater about his dream and they generously offered to donate the drums! We also enjoyed a partnership with Lane Pederson, owner of Twin Cities Drum Collective and co-owner of Mental Health Systems MN who immediately jumped on-board to contribute the hardware, cymbals, and throne. They worked with Samy’s church and WAM volunteers to assemble the entire set for the big reveal that took place last weekend!

Samy arrived for the weekly worship band practice on Saturday and was surprised to find a small group of friends who were standing by a shiny new drum set. Overwhelmed with emotion, he realized his wish had come true and everyone in attendance was there to support him on his big day! Thanks also to School of Rock St. Paul for contributing 6-months of drum lessons for Samy! We can’t wait to hear more from this great kid as he continues to grow in his love of music!
