Mathew is an artistic and creative 16-year-old high school student from Hoffman, MN who absolutely loves attending theater shows and plays! Mathew was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) last year and when we met with him in September he was preparing for a bone marrow transplant that would require him to be in the hospital for a couple of months. Thankfully, his wish allowed him to enjoy focusing on the anticipation of a dream come true! He told us that his #1 wish was to see Wicked on Broadway and visit New York landmarks with his family. Initially, he’d talked about going in March, but decided to hold off until May so that he could build up his strength, endurance, and immunity. Those of you who attended the Winter Ball in February will remember Mathew on-stage as we revealed a video from Broadway Wicked cast members Elphaba & Fiyero sharing that they were looking forward to him attending their show! Just a few weeks ago, Mathew experienced it all – to the max! Delta treated him like a celebrity in the Delta Sky Club and gave the family a ride in the exclusive Delta Porsche to the tarmac; he sat in the fifth row at Wicked; he received a three-hour private limo tour with a NYC tour guide; and he visited the Empire State Building, Madame Tussauds and Times Square, among other amazing sites! Special and warm thank yous to all involved in making Mathew’s wish come true, especially our wish contributors: InterContinental MSP, Hoffman Lions Club, Rebecca MacGregor from Sense of Place Travel, Merlin’s Magic Wand Foundation, Laurie Rud, Emily Bina & Benj Pasek. Mathew’s smile says it all – Wish Granted!
