Four-year-old Marilyn received the devastating diagnosis of Stage-4 Metastatic Yolk Sack Cancer in March of 2022. This past year has been a whirlwind of treatments and during one long and difficult chemo stay, Marilyn sat on her bed gazing out the window and wistfully said, “I wish I could swim in the ocean and see dolphins!” So it was no surprise to her family that she shared the same wish when she met our Wish Wizards. However, she also shared that she wanted to see octopus as well as dolphins, and that her second wish was to ride on an airplane. We were happy to fulfill both of these wishes when we sent her family of nine off to Florida last month. One of the must-dos for this girly-princess was to visit the salon at Give Kids the World with her sisters. Her older sister asked for a French braid and Marilyn decided she wanted one, too. Oops, the only problem is that Marilyn’s hair is only two inches long. But that didn’t stop the stylist from giving her the braid of her dreams. She went to the back room and came out with a crocheted Rapunzel braid and Marilyn was thrilled! Mom had many teary moments, but they were tears of joy as she watched her large family enjoy a trip-of-a-lifetime at the Parks plus two special days at the beach, just soaking up the sun and the sand. Family fun time and a well deserved break for all. As Marilyn continues to battle this disease, we wish her well and hope this wish will be a beautiful memory for years to come.
