Lucy

Thirteen-year-old Lucy has a congenital condition that causes dangerous episodes of iron overloads. She is reliant upon frequent transfusions to maintain her health; consequently, she knows her way around the hospital. However, she is also engaged in quite an impressive number of extracurricular activities and interests: french horn, piano, basketball, and theater. This exceptional young lady can speak Chinese and is also teaching herself to speak Spanish. I mean…WOW! When our wish wizards met  her, she couldn’t stop talking about all the places she wanted to go… but a family vacation to Hawaii rose to the top as her primary wish. Maui was the location and the adventure began with a stop at the Delta Sky Lounge followed by a Porsche ride on the tarmac that delivered her to the plane! Once they touched down in Maui and experienced a ceremonial lei greeting, they didn’t stop! From surfing lessons – to a luau – to an early morning sunrise at the top of a volcano – to amazing food throughout the trip – they did it all! The beach was the highlight and Lucy loved every minute in the sand. Dad wrote, “We had a great time at the luau. At the end of the show they gave special mention to ‘the lovely Lucy’. It was a fantastic touch to end the evening. It’s really been a magical week for her.
