In the past year, 17-year-old Chance was diagnosed with cancerous tumors in his left femur, all lobes of his lungs and right thigh. He has gone through intense chemotherapy and radiation, multiple lung surgeries, a crisis of his veins leaking the chemo, and a leg amputation. When Chance was interviewed by our wish wizards, we learned more about this great kid than just his cancer journey – we learned that some of his favorite activities include fishing, archery, paintball, golf, and simply spending time outside. We also heard about his incredible attitude and fighting spirit when he shared that he went on a camping and fishing trip shortly after his leg was amputated. His family slogan is, “Cancer doesn’t stand a Chance” – and this close-knit group will do anything to support this great teen. We couldn’t wait to do our part by providing his wish to fish in the open water and “catch something bigger than a bass!”
We had to wait a little while before his wish could happen based on his treatment schedule – so a few months before his wish, we partnered with Scheels and set him up with a day of shopping for fishing equipment. After his shopping spree, he was surprised by his entire family in the Scheel’s conference room where he found out his wish was approved! Then, it was time for his trip! It started with an overnight stay at the Intercontinental MSP before Delta Air Lines gave the family a send-off to remember! After landing in Miami, they enjoyed a beautiful drive down the Keys for their stay at the Islander Resort where they enjoyed a beautiful villa for their stay! The family loves watching the Gator Boys on YouTube, so we set up a fun meet and greet with Paul at Everglades Holiday Park! Jake Roth from Power Play Sportfishing took the family out for a day on the water – and even though the wind and waves prevented them from catching any deep-sea fish, they did catch jack crevalle, yellowtail, and a pufferfish! We are incredibly grateful that we were able to provide this wonderful experience for Chance and his family and thank the tagged companies, along with the Kelm family, for their generous wish contributions. Join us in wishing Chance well as he continues his fight!
