Shortly after he was born, Alexander was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma during a follow-up pediatric visit, marking the beginning of a long journey for him and his family. After months of chemotherapy, they were overjoyed to learn that his tumor had shrunk, and his compromised kidney had healed! With his health improving, the family was finally able to enjoy simple joys like getting out of the house again, going to the park, and running errands. To celebrate everything Alex has overcome, his family wished for a cabin getaway trip to relax and get away from everyday life for a while. They stayed just outside of Duluth, seeing all the fall colors and soaking up much-needed family time together. Thanks to the generosity of the Lake Superior Zoo, the Duluth Children’s Museum, Adventure Zone Duluth, and the Great Lakes Aquarium, we were able to coordinate a few special outings for the family during their trip. One of Alex’s favorite moments was visiting the aquarium—his face lit up with excitement as he said “Fishy!” again and again. His mom shared that chemo has delayed his speech, so hearing him express such joy meant the world. After the trip, she shared how sad they were to leave. She told us, “You have no idea how much we needed that.” We are beyond thrilled that Alex and his family had such a memorable time, and we wish him continued health and family adventures!
