Greg “Junior”

There are some families that have suffered tragedies beyond belief. Junior’s family is one of those who have suffered beyond words. In 2015, his younger brother, Trevor, was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just two-years-old. He went through four years of treatment at Children’s and thankfully, he is now a healthy tween. However, six months into Trevor’s treatment, the family tragically lost their patriarch, Greg Sr. Fast forward to November 2021, fourteen-year-old Greg “Junior” was rushed to the hospital and doctors found that he had no platelets, no white blood cells, and his body was rupturing internally. If he hadn’t gone to the hospital that night, he would have bled to death. He was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, the most uncommon type of leukemia. They spent 31 days in the hospital and received 32 blood transfusions during that time alone. His treatment required him to stay in the hospital for one week, every other month, and he received transfusions 4-days out of every week. As you can imagine, this incredibly strong-willed kid and his family were very ready for a wish to lift their spirits. Now 17-year-old Junior decided to wish for a trip to the bluest waters to trade his hospital gown for snorkel gear.  He was excited to do some exploring with his family in Cozumel – parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, driving dune buggies and soaking up the sun!  He and his siblings enjoyed their fair share of kiddie cocktails at the swim up bar! Not even a hurricane could keep this family away from a wish come true, even though the hurricane hit the island the same day they arrived! Junior had a blast on his wish and the whole family wants to go back to relive the experience again sometime soon. Wishing this great kid and this incredibly resilient family as much joy and as many healthy days ahead as possible!
