Meet Cedric – an angler extraordinaire! This 18-year-old absolutely loves fishing! He appreciates and revels in living in our State of 10,000 lakes, where he can head out and spend time on the shores whenever he is feeling well enough to be outside. Unfortunately, this year, he hasn’t had many of those opportunities because his immune system has been seriously compromised from a Bone Marrow Transplant he had in November. He was cautioned not to go out in public and he was discouraged to hear that he was also asked to pass on his favorite past time, due to the risk of getting snagged or cut by a hook and getting an infection. You aren’t going to be surprised to hear that when we met Cedric, he immediately knew what he wanted to wish for – fishing gear! Thankfully we have some great supporters who were happy to jump in and help this fishing fanatic!
It began in March, when he received an offer to visit the Northwest Sportshow. Unfortunately, he wasn’t well enough to attend, so Dave, from Ripalip, had the Bass Pro Fishermen sign a performance shirt for Cedric (including Raven and Ron Schara!) and delivered it along with some Sportshow goodies and a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses to Cedric’s home. Then in April, Thorne Brothers donated both ice fishing and open water gear which was also delivered by Dave Dave & Mystery Tackle Box shipped the first monthly gift box to Cedric which will continue for one year. In May, the Maddy Nelson Walleye Fishing Tournament participants each brought fishing items to gift to Cedric – and together they generously donated a trunk-full of supplies. Thanks to the Maddy Nelson Memorial Foundation for adopting this wish as well! And more recently in July, once Cedric was in the clear to be in public, we had his shopping spree day at Scheels where he received one-on-one attention to select the rest of what he needs to be successful on the water! We also passed along a donated Vexilar Fish Finder perfect for the upcoming ice fishing season. Wishing Cedric ongoing health and the best of luck as he begins using his new fishing gear – we hope you catch the big one!
