David’s mom was five months pregnant when she learned that the baby she was carrying would be born with an extremely complicated heart defect. She knew, before she was able to hold him in her arms, that he would require three heart surgeries. His first one was when he was 6 months old and that is when his mother reached out to us. David’s recovery was difficult, and his condition became more complex after he started experiencing seizures and a stroke as a result of a blood clot in his brain. Doctors became wary of performing any additional corrective heart surgeries – instead, they recommended a full heart transplant. At just over 16 months old little David underwent his transplant. More complications due to a virus and infection resulted in additional hospitalization. Wishes & More was standing by to grant a wish for this remarkable little fighter and after a long year, he was finally ready. This sweetheart is playful and friendly….as the youngest of six kids, he has a lot of love surrounding him at all times! David loves water and his parents indicated that a “staycation” may be the best wish for him so that they could be close to his medical team in case anything came up during his wish. David’s family trip to the Great Wolf Lodge took place last week and the entire family enjoyed a few days of relaxation where everything was taken care of! They had a blast taking in the arcade, build-a-bear workshop, and character events. They also spent a day at Crayola Experience Mall of America as an added bonus. The pools and slides were also a hit, as you can see by the “action photos.” Mom said that even as he was falling asleep, he wanted to be in the water! Special thanks to Nothing Bundt Cakes for gifting a BIG chocolate cake for the family to keep the blood sugar up for their long days of fun! Mom indicated that after all that the family has been through, it was such an incredible opportunity to have the family together enjoying something they wouldn’t have done on their own. We are grateful for the opportunity to gift this wish to David and his family and we will continue to cheer him on as he travels the path of his health journey.
